PRESS RELEASE
New Cameras Installed for Red Light Safety Program
Starting March 14th, the Red Light Safety Program will add cameras at four additional intersections in Baton Rouge.
Drivers who enter the intersection after the light turns red can expect to receive a $117 citation in the mail at these intersections:
College @ I-10 Northbound
College @ I-10 Southbound
Highway 19 @ Blount Northbound
Essen Lane @ I-10 Northbound
Essen Lane @ I-10 Southbound
Essen Lane @ I-10 Eastbound
Airline Highway @ Old Hammond Highway Northbound
The program already has a camera mounted to catch violators traveling East bound on Coursey Blvd @ Sherwood Forest Blvd. So far, 28 citations have been issued since February 18 to drivers who ran a red light at that intersection.
The program is aimed at modifying driver behavior. It targets intersections throughout the Parish which have unusually high accident rates, most often caused when a driver ignores the changing signal light and plows through the intersection after the light turns red.
Violators who receive citations have the option of paying the fine either by mail, phone using a credit card or in person at the City Court Cashier’s window, 233 St Louis Street. They can also pay online, or contest the violation before an Adjudication Hearing Officer.
