Advocate article: Council committee backs 7 projects

The Metro Council Capital Improvements Committee on Wednesday recommended approving seven engineering projects in the city-parish’s Green Light roads program.
The full council is to take final action next week on the contracts. The design work advancing to the council is:
- $690,862 to TRC Engineers for the widening of Old Hammond Highway from Millerville Road to O’Neal Lane.
- $347,713 to Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Inc. for improving Lobdell Avenue from Goodwood to Florida boulevards.
- $808,000 to Pyburn & Odom Inc. for extending Staring Lane from Highland Road to Burbank Drive.
- $663,577 to Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure Inc. for the widening of South Harrell’s Ferry Road from Millerville to O’Neal.
- $1.2 million to Sigma Consulting Group for the widening of Jones Creek Road from Coursey Boulevard to South Harrell’s Ferry.
- $292,000 to Justice & Huang Engineers Inc. for improving the intersection of Coursey and South Sherwood Forest Boulevard.
- $260,000 to Buchart Horn Inc. for improving the intersection of Foster Drive and Government Street. In other action Wednesday, the Finance and Executive Committee recommended settlements for three lawsuits against the city-parish. The proposed settlements are:
- $76,154 in the case of Debra Harrison, injured in a fall while walking to a concert at the River Center.
- $19,998 in the case of Peter Sutherland, who sued after police entered his home without a warrant while investigating complaints about debris in a neighbor’s yard
- $27,212 in the case of Larry Dersona, who claimed he was roughed up by a police officer during a traffic stop.
